API Receives Two New Contracts for ActiveStaffer; New Client Contracts and Recent Survey Data Reaffirm Technology Solves Top Healthcare Industry Staffing Challenges.

Business Editors/Health/Medical Writers

HARTFORD, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2004

API (Application Programming Interface) A language and message format used by an application program to communicate with the operating system or some other control program such as a database management system (DBMS) or communications protocol.  Software, Inc. announced today two more contract signings for the company's ActiveStaffer(R) employee scheduling/staffing application. Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md. and Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. have recently signed contracts to purchase API's ActiveStaffer application. ActiveStaffer automates the time-consuming, labor-intensive manual processes involved in scheduling employees, thereby maximizing resources, controlling labor costs and retaining qualified staff. The application reduces the time burden on managers and schedulers, ensures employees are being treated equitability and proves quantitatively that patient care standards are being met.

With technology dollars tighter than ever before, it is imperative that organizations look for applications that not only help them automate manual tasks, but that also help them address organizational challenges. In a recent API survey of Association of Nursing Executives (AONE AONE American Organization of Nurse Executives
AonE Animeone (anime fansub group)
) members that do not use ActiveStaffer, 80 percent said that recruiting and retention were two of the top three issues at their hospitals. Eighty-nine percent said they felt that an automated system could help them, but 61 percent felt their current system doesn't provide the tools needed to really address these issues.

With ActiveStaffer, employees know that they are being scheduled fairly and equitably. The application also makes it easier for organizations to place more emphasis on work/life balance. These benefits mean employees are happier, which equate e·quate

to improved recruitment and retention efforts.

"ActiveStaffer not only automates the manual tasks associated with scheduling, but it addresses high-level concerns as well, such as recruitment and retention issues," said Luis Garcia, API president and chief executive officer. "It is especially satisfying when existing clients like Duke and Anne Arundel who are using the API Payrollmation(R) time and attendance system buy additional applications to continue to improve their management of labor resource information."
