Business/Technology Editors

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 2001

Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE NYSE

:TER Third version. See bis. ) today announced that API NetWorks, Inc. has selected the Tiger Platform to test its AP1011, the industry's first HyperTransport technology-to-PCI (Peripheral Component Interface) bridge chip. API NetWorks, a co-developer of the HyperTransport technology with AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, www.amd.com) A major manufacturer of semiconductor devices including x86-compatible CPUs, embedded processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices and networking chips. , chose Tiger, the first SOC system offering economical at-speed testing for emerging high speed bus standards, based on Teradyne's proven experience with the next-generation, high-speed I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

"HyperTransport technology presents new test challenges in the area of differential signaling Using two wires for each electrical path for high immunity to noise and crosstalk. The signals are sent down one wire as positive and the other as negative, and the circuit at the receiving end derives the signal from the difference between the two. , accuracy, and speed," said David Rich, general manager at API NetWorks. "We are confident that Teradyne's digital and differential capabilities for Tiger combined with the company's expertise and experience in testing HyperTransport technology will allow us to meet our present and future testing needs and guarantee the quality assurance of every device we ship to our customers."

The AP1011, the first in a family of HyperTransport technology products from API NetWorks, provides the critical function of connecting the HyperTransport link on microprocessors, network processors and ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) to a wide variety of PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

devices and peripherals, providing the engineering community the immediate ability to benefit from HyperTransport's performance boost. API NetWorks will be testing the AP1011 devices at the ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) A relational DBMS from Sybase that runs on Windows NT/2000, Linux and a variety of Unix platforms. ASE is a comprehensive and robust data management product with a long history dating back to the late 1980s.  facility in Taiwan. AMD also recently announced they would be testing their HyperTransport technology products using Tiger.

As co-developers in the original specification, API NetWorks and AMD are experts in this technology", said Wayne Ponik, Vice President of VLSI VLSI: see integrated circuit.

Marketing at Teradyne. "The fact that the two original developers of HyperTransport, AMD and API NetWorks, have selected Tiger as the test platform for this exciting new technology is testament to our industry-leading position in the testing field."

"ASE Test is a leader in providing test solutions for new technologies such as HyperTransport technology," said IL Lin, Vice President of Engineering at ASE Test. "ASE Test is very pleased to partner with API NetWorks and Teradyne, whose Tiger test system provides the performance and functionality needed to test new technologies such as HyperTransport technology".

) is a new high-speed point-to-point link that reduces data bottlenecks and boosts the performance of current and future PCs and communications equipment. HyperTransport technology moves data from processors to peripherals at speeds up to 60 times faster than a PCI bus (32-bit bus operating at 66 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. ) and is expected to improve the performance of a variety of computing and networking devices, including PCs, workstations, servers, Internet routers, optical switches, enterprise networks, central office equipment and cellular base stations.

About Tiger

The Catalyst Tiger is the first over 1 Gbps SOC test system. Extending the Catalyst Family, Tiger shares the same high throughput zero-time DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  architecture, IMAGE(TM) software and state-of-the-art analog instruments and extends the Catalyst Family to 1024 digital pins. Powered by breakthrough Silicon Germanium (SiGe) technology, Tiger sets a new digital performance standard with full I/O data rates to 1.6 Gbps while retaining the timing flexibility at top speed demanded by chipset and network processing applications. The flexibility of Tiger allows customers to configure their system to meet the test needs of a broad range of devices.
