APERTUS TECHNOLOGIES INCORPORATED ANNOUNCES INTENT TO ACQUIRE SYSTEMS STRATEGIES

 MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Apertus Technologies Incorporated (NASDAQ: APTS) today announced that it signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire System Strategies Inc. (SSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of AGS Computers, Inc., a NYNEX company. The terms of the letter of intent have not been disclosed.
 Apertus Technologies Incorporated, headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minn., with 15 sales and service offices throughout North America, is a supplier of communication systems and enabling tools that facilitate communications across diverse computing environments with large enterprise networks. Apertus' Internetworking Group provides high- performance network gateways that facilitate LAN-to-IBM mainframe interoperability. Apertus' Enterprise Systems Group provides server based tools that integrate mainframe-based legacy systems into client/server applications.
 SSI, headquartered in New York city, with sales offices throughout the United States and Europe, has been a respected provider of communications software products for over fifteen years. SSI's EXPRESS is the industry's foremost UNIX-to-IBM host connectivity software, providing leading-edge solutions, including terminal emulation, APPN networking, file transfer, print sharing, messaging and applications programming interfaces. SSI's ezBridge Transact products allow distributed applications across heterogeneous networks to communicate utilizing messaging technology.
 Robert D. Gordon, Apertus president and chief executive officer, stated, "The acquisition of SSI by Apertus will result in one of the industry's leading communication software companies, with a broad range of products facilitating the interoperation of heterogeneous computer networks."  Stan Adelman, chairman of SSI, stated, "Systems Strategies and Apertus share strategic interests which both companies believe will provide continued growth for the businesses and enhanced technologies for customers."
 The transaction is subject to negotiation, execution, regulatory approval and board approval of a definitive agreement by both Apertus and NYNEX. Completion of the transaction is expected within 30 days.
