APERTUS TECHNOLOGIES INCORPORATED ANNOUNCES ENHANCEMENT TO DATASTAR 3270
 TERMINAL SERVER FAMILY OF PRODUCTS

New Version Provides 3270 Terminal Users Transparent Access to IBM and
 non-IBM Host Resources Across a TCP/IP Network
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Apertus Technologies Incorporated (NASDAQ: APTS), developer and marketer of internetworking products, today at INTEROP announced an enhancement to its Datastar terminal server family of products. With the new communications services module and release 1.2 software, the Datastar 3270 terminal server allows 3270 terminal users transparent access to both IBM and non-IBM host resources across a TCP/IP network.
The product allows businesses to connect more than 300 IBM 3270 fixed-function terminals to TCP/IP host resources on Ethernet or Token- Ring LANs with more than 500 Telnet or TN3270 sessions in a single Datastar communication server chassis. The enhancements offered in the Datastar terminal server make it possible for companies to protect existing investments in coax terminals.
"One outcome of the corporate 'rightsizing' process is the movement of traditional 3270 applications to distributed computing platforms," said Robert D. Gordon, Apertus' chairman and chief executive officer. "The Datastar 3270 terminal server offers a robust solution to companies operating in a changing computing environment."
Unlike mainframe-based Telnet packages, the Datastar does not use any valuable CPU cycles or host resources. It also provides a full- screen emulation for terminal users. The Datastar 3270 terminal server provides the most complete off-loaded 3270 to TCP/IP terminal service available today.
Version 1.2 of the Datastar 3270 terminal server will be available in November. List prices range from $16,500 to $77,250, depending upon the number of terminal connections and sessions supported.
The complete Apertus product line includes a series of terminal networking products and gateways. The terminal networking products allow the connection of synchronous and asynchronous terminals to TCP/IP-based, and SNA-based Ethernet or Token Ring LANS, and offer large capacity and industry leading price/performance. The Gateway products provide interoperability between TCP/IP and IBM 3270 hosts, connect SNA LANs to IBM host environments via SDLC or channel connections, and connect Digital Equipment terminals to SNA environments.
Apertus Technologies Incorporated has historically provided internetworking solutions into the telecommunications industry and is leveraging that expertise as they expand into the commercial marketplace. Apertus' Networking Products Group and Enterprise Systems Group facilitates the integration of heterogeneous computer environments within large corporate networks worldwide. The company is headquartered in suburban Minneapolis and has sales and service offices in Atlanta; Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Cleveland; Dallas; Denver; Detroit; Indianapolis; Los Angeles; New York City; Philadelphia; St. Louis; San Francisco; and South Bend, Ind.
