APAMO looks at intergenerational communication issues.

The seminar focused on the varied generations in communities and the different values, beliefs, priorities and "sets of words" that are communicated among these different groups. Discussions focused on the view of the world so that participants could gain a better understanding of why people react the way they do in a given situation.

The group, under the leadership of APAMO President Otto Lee, mayor, Sunnyvale, Calf., also co-hosted a reception for with all of the NLC constituency groups.

"It is very rewarding for us to work together so that we can learn more about each other's priorities and programs," Lee said. "For APAMO, we greatly value the relationships we are building with all of the NLC constituency groups. We gain so much more when we work together."

APAMO Immediate Past President Tzeital Paras-Caracci, councilmember, Duarte, Calif., was elected to the NLC Board of Directors at the conference.

At their business meeting, APAMO members discussed the need for increased APAMO participation in other NLC committees, panels, councils and policy/advocacy steering committees. APAMO also heard from several NLC Board candidates.

APAMO will hold elections for its 2008-2010 Board of Directors at the March 8-12, 2008 NLC Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C. Board nomination forms will be available for APAMO members in January 2008.

APAMO's officers are: Lee, president: Steve Cho, councilmember, Fremont, Calif., vice president; Jennifer Kim, councilmember, Austin, Texas, secretary; Dean Chu, councilmember, Sunnyvale, Calif., treasurer; and Paras-Caracci, immediate past president.
