McLEAN, Va.--(BW HealthWire)--Sept. 13, 2000

APACHE Medical Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:AMSI)--a leading provider of systems and services that help healthcare providers improve outcomes and reduce costs--today named Laura Catalina Yorke, RN, BSN, MPH, director of client services. She replaces Charlene Honeycutt, RN, BSN, MBA, who is leaving APACHE to accept an appointment at The Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C.

"Since she first joined APACHE in 1998, Laura has stepped up to every new challenge we have offered her," said APACHE CEO William A. Knaus, MD, who made the announcement at APACHE headquarters in McLean. "We are delighted to continue our tradition of offering promotional opportunities to our employees."

Hired as an APACHE senior implementation project manager, Yorke has supervised APACHE(R) Critical Care Series(TM) (CCS) implementations in the U.S. and Australia, trained users, developed software documentation, and led the development and execution of the company's software quality assurance for Critical Care Series releases. Most recently, she served as interim director of client services this summer.

"As we leverage our leadership in critical care decision support into similar `Gold Standard' status in other high-cost, high-risk patient care areas--and expand our reach via the Internet," added Knaus, "it's important that our clients know that someone of Laura's caliber and credentials is overseeing our implementation, training and support operation."

Prior to joining APACHE, Yorke spent seven years at The George Washington University (GWU GWU - Gardner-Webb University
GWU - General Workers Union (Malta)
GWU - George Washington University
GWU - Grain Workers' Union (Canada)
) Medical Center in Washington, D.C., in a variety of clinical and research roles that make her ideal for her new responsibilities. As a full-time registered nurse, she managed medical, surgical and trauma patients in their Intensive Care Unit (ICU), in addition to quality assurance, staffing and "Charge Nurse" duties. She also managed pre- and post-operative care for patients recovering from cardiac bypass, valve or heart transplant surgery in their cardiovascular ICU.

Prior to joining GWU, Yorke spent three years managing medical/surgical patients in intermediate care

2. A level of care for nonacutely ill, disabled, or elderly individuals.
units all over the U.S.--a "traveling nurse" assignment that has made her familiar with clinical and administrative practices at a wide variety of American hospitals.

A Hartford, Conn., native, the Alexandria, Va., resident earned a masters of public health from The GWU School of Public Health--where she also worked as a research associate--and a bachelor of science in nursing from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass.
