APACHE Medical Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMSI), a leading provider of decision support and disease management products and consulting services, today announced that Violet Shaffer has been named Chief Operating Officer of the Company, effective immediately. Currently Vice President of the Company, Ms. Shaffer's responsibilities included marketing and product management. In her new role, she will direct the day-to-day operations of the Company and oversee the rollout of APACHE's new Internet product lines.

Commenting on her promotion, Dr. William Knaus, President and Chief Executive Officer said, "Vi has recently taken on expanded operational responsibilities and this step recognizes her increased role in the Company. She is an experienced executive in medical decision support systems and is known for her strong commitment to customer service." Prior to joining APACHE, Ms. Shaffer was President and CEO of Competitive Advantage Services, Inc., a strategic planning and marketing firm. After a successful career in sales and marketing with AT&T and Bell Atlantic, where she directed the corporation's healthcare market strategy, she left to become Corporate Vice President of The MEDSTAT Group in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was also previously Vice President of Nichols Research Corporation, now part of Computer Sciences Corporation and HealthGate Data Corporation, partially owned by Nichols.

The Company also announced that Scott Mason, Executive Vice President of APACHE is leaving the Company at the end of October to become the President and Chief Executive Officer of eko systems, inc. in Fairfax, Virginia. Founded in 1996, eko is focused on delivering point of care informatics solutions.
