June 5 has been selected as the 1999 date for the annual administration of the Adapted Physical Education Adapted physical education is a sub-discipline of physical education. It is an individualized program created for students who require a specially designed program for more than 30 days.  National Certification Exam. The Exam is given each year on the first Saturday in the month of June. The Exam, sanctioned by the National Consortium of Physical Education and Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPERID), is composed of 100 multiple choice items designed to measure teachers' knowledge of the Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS APENS Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia ). In order to take the exam, a teacher must demonstrate that s/he meets either the following basic or alternative requirements:

Basic Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Physical Education

* 200 hours of documented practical experience in Adapted Physical Education

* At least one 3-credit-hour survey course in Adapted Physical Education

* Hold a valid teaching certificate

or

Alternative Requirements (only applicable 1997-2000)

* Bachelor's degree in any educational field

* 1000 hours of documented practicum practicum (prak´tikm),

The purpose of this data bank is to provide assistance to those who need information on various issues related to adapted physical activity.
