AP/AOL Learning Services Poll: Teachers Are Less Confident Than Parents That Schools Will Meet No Child Left behind Deadline.

DULLES, Va. -- According to an Associated Press/AOL Learning Services Poll, in the wake of the No Child Left Behind law, teachers are less confident than parents that their schools will meet state testing standards by the 2013-2014 deadline. The poll, conducted by Knowledge Networks between January 13-23, found that 49% of teachers are not confident that their schools will meet the state requirements. However, 78% of parents feel more confident that their children's schools will succeed.

The Associated Press/AOL Learning Services Poll also found that teachers and parents have somewhat differing views when it comes to their states' current standards for reading and math:

** Almost a third (31%) of parents say their states' standards are too
   lenient, compared to only 15% of teachers.

** 20% of teachers say their states' standards are too harsh, compared
   to 13% of parents.

** 64% of teachers and 54% of parents say that the standards are about
   right.

Methodology

The Associated Press/AOL Learning Services Poll was conducted online by Knowledge Networks. Between January 13-23, 2006, Knowledge Networks interviewed a representative sample of 1,085 parents who have children in kindergarten through grade 12, as well as a sample of 810 of kindergarten through 12th grade teachers. Members of the Knowledge Networks Internet panel are recruited by telephone polling methods, and panelists who are not online are provided with Internet access.
