Time Warner Foundation today announced a grant to the Museum of the City of New York The Museum of the City of New York is an art gallery and history museum founded in 1923 to present the history of New York City and its people. In 1982, the Museum received The Hundred Year Association of New York's Gold Medal Award "in recognition of outstanding contributions to to support the archiving of September 11 video footage. The footage from the upcoming HBO documentary "IN MEMORIAM: NEW YORK CITY, 9/11/01" will be available as a permanent resource to historians, researchers and the public. The grant will also support the screening of the film at the Museum during the summer of 2002 as well as opportunities for museum visitors to create memorial "tiles" for an HBO Web-based initiative commemorating September 11. "IN MEMORIAM: NEW YORK CITY, 9/11/01" draws on unprecedented access to City Hall and the staff of former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, as well as original visual material from still and video cameras of people in and around New York City. The documentary will be shown at the museum at 3 PM on June 8 and 30, July 20 and 21, and August 10 and 11. In addition, visitors can create and submit a personal "memorial tile" to commemorate the heroes and victims of 9/11. Memorial tiles will then become part of a "Tribute Mosaic" on the HBO Web site, which launched this week and will continue to grow as an ongoing memorial.
