AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services.  Time Warner today announced the winners of the 20th annual Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards, which recognize outstanding volunteer achievements of employees. The awards, named for Andrew Heiskell, a former chairman of Time Inc., are being presented to 10 employees at a luncheon at the Time & Life Building in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

, in honor of their exceptional contributions to public service, equal opportunity and human rights around the world.

The Company is also announcing a new initiative called AOL Time Warner ECHO (Employees Caring and Helping Others; http://echo.aoltw.com), which includes a new Web site and grant program designed to provide company support for a wide range of employee philanthropic activities.

And we are pleased to be able to encourage them in their efforts to make a real and sustainable difference in people's lives."

The broad range of accomplishments this year include work on behalf of disaster relief, health care, homelessness, AIDS activism, economic and community development, youth mentoring Youth mentoring is the process of matching caring, concerned adults with young people who may be at risk. The adult is usually unrelated and works as a volunteer through a community, school or church based social service program.  and human services, among a great many others.

"There are lots of avenues to get things done," said award winner Mitch Rabil. "And you always receive 10-fold back what you put into it."

Each recipient receives $5,000 from AOL Time Warner, in the form of a $3,000 donation from the AOL Time Warner Foundation to the nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

The awards are named for Andrew Heiskell, who compiled a distinguished record of community service and philanthropy during his 43-year career at Time Inc. from founding the National Urban Coalition and serving as its co-chairman from 1967 until 1979 to his key role in the restoration of Bryant Park in 1995. He has been recognized for his leadership in numerous ways, including having the New York Library for the Blind named for him.

The awards were initiated in 1982 to honor Mr. Heiskell's service to the community and recognize employees who serve their communities in the tradition of Mr. Heiskell. To date, there have been 157 employee recipients of the award.
