AOL Names Ted Cahall as Head of Its Platforms Business Unit.


DULLES, Va. -- AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services.  announced today that Internet veteran Ted Cahall will head the company's Platforms business unit as Executive Vice President, Platforms reporting to Ron Grant Ron Grant is the name of:
  • Ronald Grant, the President & Chief Operating Officer of AOL LLC
  • Ron Grant, one of the longest-serving staff and Kit Manager at Reading Football Club
, President and COO of AOL. In this newly created position, Cahall will oversee AOL Search, e-commerce, publishing platform and tools, the industry-leading MapQuest service and other local-based services, such as Relegence, which AOL recently acquired. Cahall will be based in Dulles, Va.

The Platforms business unit will focus on providing users with the tools and content they need to productively and efficiently utilize the Web, and increase communication and information sharing See data conferencing.  among these consumer-focused lines of business.

Prior to joining AOL, Cahall was Executive Vice President and COO of Classmates.com, where he directed operations at Classmates.com, a leading community-based networking company. He was also Executive Vice President of the United Online Web Services division, overseeing the company's various web-hosting brands including Freeservers.com and photo sharing service PhotoSite.

Prior to that, Cahall was Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President at CNET (body) CNET - Centre national d'Etudes des Telecommunications. The French national telecommunications research centre at Lannion.  Networks, where he managed the company's technology infrastructure and played a critical role in the development and growth of CNET Networks' leading brands, such as CNET, GameSpot, News.com, Download.com, Webshots, and ZDNet. He also converted the company from proprietary Unix hardware and software to an Intel/Linux infrastructure, saving millions of dollars of capital and operational expenditures.
