AOL Donates Computer Lab To Detroit School; Actor Tom Arnold Announces Donation of 30 Computers to Meet Needs of Hutchins Middle School.


DETROIT -- AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services.  today announced it is creating the Detroit Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology AOL Computer Lab at Hutchins Middle School. The lab will feature 30 computers and an ergonomic and innovatively designed classroom that will be housed in the Hutchins Middle School. The classroom is being designed through a collaborative effort that includes input from teachers and students. The official announcement was made today at the school by actor Tom Arnold Tom Arnold is the name of:

Hutchins Middle School received the students from the recent closure of the Detroit Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology, and due to lack of funds, the students previously had little resources for computer and technology education. AOL has been on-site for several weeks meeting with the teachers to learn what would help make it an ideal learning environment to help develop the Learning Center.

"These computers, coupled with the high speed laser printers and other state-of-the-art gadgets AOL is pouring into Hutchins Middle School will make these students even more academically competitive. The complete classroom will include 30 computers, complete with the latest software and high-speed connectivity, a plasma television, two laser high speed printers, work stations that make it easier for teachers to work with students one-on-one and a projector & projection screen for group projects.
