(R) Micro Environment, a Java Powered(TM) virtual machine for mobile devices, with AOL/Tegic's T9 predictive text Predictive text is an input technology designed for mobile phones. The technology allows words to be entered by a single keypress for each letter, as opposed to the multiple keypress approach used in the older generation of mobile phones.  software. Called T9 Run, the new integrated offering is designed to provide mobile device manufacturers with substantial cost savings, flexibility to add new embedded software Instructions that permanently reside in a ROM or flash memory chip. Embedded software may be immediately available to the CPU or, for faster execution, may be transferred to RAM first and then executed.  components and an accessible user interface for T9 predictive text.

Today, T9(R) predictive text makes mobile messaging and email faster and easier on more than 75 percent of mobile phones worldwide.

Deliverable in the second half of 2006, T9(R) Run is designed to make it faster, easier and more cost effective for wireless operators and device manufacturers to deploy new, trusted embedded applications to drive average revenue per user (ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) A calculation often used to determine the overall value of an application. It is also used to rate particular customers, especially in the wireless space, by comparing someone's account to the overall average. ) and software feature based differentiation. By leveraging T9 Run's plug-in model, the operators will no longer be limited by the software capabilities of their 'installed base.'

T9 Run will provide the same type of model for embedded applications that the Java platform Running Java programs under the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Java "platform" refers to the running of Java programs versus Java itself, which is a programming language. Java programs are machine independent and run intact on any hardware platform that has a Java interpreter (JVM).  provides for downloadable services and entertainment applications, filling in the gaps in feature phone based software deployment Software deployment is all of the activities that make a software system available for use.

The general deployment process consists of several interrelated activities with possible transitions between them.
left by traditional implementations. Finally, the market has an integrated offering that includes the Java Powered technology of IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment and is supported by the T9 team which is famous for its dedication to delighting customers.

"T9 has set the standard for messaging speed and ease of use, and - as one of the most broadly deployed pieces of wireless software - it has been instrumental to the worldwide adoption of mobile text messaging Sending short messages to a smartphone, pager, PDA or other handheld device. Text messaging implies sending short messages generally no more than a couple of hundred characters in length. ," said Michael Garbett, Director of Product Management Client Platforms & Technologies, IBM Software Group. "IBM is very pleased to be working with AOL to integrate T9 software with WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment, providing handset manufacturers with a tightly integrated software Separate software components or applications that have been combined into one package. "We are thrilled to be working with IBM to usher in Verb 1. usher in - be a precursor of; "The fall of the Berlin Wall ushered in the post-Cold War period"

the next generation of revenue enhancing feature phones," said Bill Schwebel, President, Tegic Communications. "The speed, memory usage and compatibility of IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment will make T9 Run a stand out in the market. Together, we will make it easier than ever for mobile users around the world to enjoy popular data services. We look forward to working with our wireless operator and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  partners to speed the delivery of these flexible next generation mobile devices to all four corners of the world."

T9 Run extends the porting layer of IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment to provide a universal plug-in architecture for trusted embedded software solutions. This plug-in architecture will help make it quick and cost effective for handset manufacturers to support third-party embedded software products. The T9 predictive text core can also be upgraded with new features and improvements - like personal database synchronization and the XT9(TM) Mobile Interface - 'over the air.'

These components are designed to avoid the typical security restraints imposed on downloadable Java applications. Because WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment provides a consistent interface to the services of feature phones, the T9 Run plug-in model will allow OEMs to add software features much closer to the retail release of the handset, or - in cooperation with the operator - over the air after purchase, thereby drastically reducing the time to market for new operator driven features.

The open-standards-based Java Powered virtual machine WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment, is part of IBM Workplace IBM Workplace was a brand of collaborative software applications from IBM's Lotus Software division. It was intended to be the next generation of collaboration software that would work with IBM's Java EE-based WebSphere Portal server software.  Client Technology(TM) Micro Edition, server-managed device middleware, designed to connect enterprise data to mobile devices for sales force automation Automating the sales activities within an organization. A comprehensive SFA package provides such functions as contact management, note and information sharing, quick proposal and presentation generation, product configurators, calendars and to-do lists.  and mobile employee productivity. IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment is a tested and certified production-ready runtime environment for J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) A version of Java 2 for cellphones, PDAs and consumer appliances. J2ME uses the K Virtual Machine (KVM), a specialized Java interpreter for devices with limited memory. (TM) applications, a key tool in the IBM arsenal that provides a foundation for extending existing e-business and consumer applications to small mobile devices. By taking advantage of the middleware provided by the WebSphere family of products, a platform for end-to-end services and applications is provided.
