Measure T: Voters backing construction of Wal-Mart

PALMDALE - Measure T was leading by a wide margin, according to election returns early Wednesday.

Measure T would authorize a General Plan amendment allowing construction of a shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  anchored by a Wal-Mart store at 47th Street East and Avenue S.

The measure was put on the ballot after a petition drive supported by grocery store clerks union, which believes the Wal-Mart will supplant good-paying jobs with those that pay much less.

Hospital board: Incumbents, hospital chief take lead

LANCASTER - Incumbents Deborah Rice and Steve Fox and Antelope Valley Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Abdallah S. Farrukh were leading for three Antelope Valley Health Care District seats, according to returns early Wednesday.

Castaic Lake Water Agency: 3 board members lead

SANTA CLARITA - Three Castaic Lake Water Agency board members were leading in early election returns.

Incumbents William C. Cooper William Craig Cooper (December 18, 1832 - August 29, 1902) was a U.S. Representative from Ohio.

Born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Cooper attended the public schools and Mount Vernon Academy. He studied law.
 in Division 1, E.G E.G For Example . ``Jerry'' Gladbach in Division 2 and appointed incumbent William Pesci in Division 3 were ahead in the race for three seats on the board that serves the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  and a small portion of Ventura County.
