The Antelope Valley Muslims will have a new place to worship this summer when the American American, river, 30 mi (48 km) long, rising in N central Calif. in the Sierra Nevada and flowing SW into the Sacramento River at Sacramento. Construction began in December. Meanwhile, more than 500 Palmdale families in the 3-year-old institute use rented buildings for worship. There will be two large worship halls - one for men and one for women - in the new mosque. ``When we pray, we pray separately,'' Mohamed said. There also will be an office or conference room, library and reading room, a kitchen, baby-sitting rooms and restrooms in the main building. Before worshiping, each Muslim washes arms, face, hands and feet, so a large washing area with 10 faucets and seats will be provided. Mohamed said non-Muslims will be welcome to use the library. ``As American Muslims, we want to provide authentic sources about Islam,'' Mohamed said. ``We have areas where people can watch videos and listen to tapes or read books about our faith.'' ``The name of Islam is used and abused,'' Mohamed said. ``But our goal is to educate, to spread peace. We are your neighbors, your friends and your fellow citizens.'' Immediately after the main building opens, two classrooms will be built behind it, institute officials said. On weekends, the mosque will offer Islamic school for children and teen-agers 4 to 18. The new facility also will be a place for weddings and Islamic community Noun 1.
