ANTELOPE VALLEY LOCAL RACES IN THE MIX TODAY.

Byline: Daily News

Antelope Valley voters go to the polls today to decide state and congressional elections, a slew of state propositions and a handful of local races.

For those who haven't voted by absentee ballot or the touch screen early voting method, the old-fashioned polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Information on polling zones or other questions is available at (800) 815-2666 or by logging on to lavote.net for voters in Los Angeles County. Kern County voters can call (800) 452-8683 or log on to elections.co.kern.ca.us.

The local races include the Antelope Valley Health Care District contest to pick two directors for the board that runs Antelope Valley Hospital.

Incumbents June Snow and Dr. Don Parazo are challenged by nurse practitioner Deborah Rice, a former board member; retired paramedic Roger Berger and school clerk Maricela Tisbert.

For the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency Division 3 seat, incumbent Frank Donato is faced by David Meraz, Quartz Hill Water District's general manager.

In Kern County, California City Mayor Larry Adams is being challenged by accountant David Evans. City Councilman Michael Edmiston and challengers Christopher Chebahtah, Dustin Richards and Cathy Strong are running for two seats.

Mojave Unified School District governing board members Jim Hooper and

Shawn Sprague and challengers George Hodgkinson and Glen Torrey are running for three seats.

For the Muroc Joint Unified School District's Trustee Area 2 Seat C, candidates are Jacon Higgins, Monica Hall and Michell Tucker.
