ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: SAYLOR HAMMERS HOME A STATE TITLE.

Quinn helped lead the 4x400 and 4x100 relay teams to fifth- and seventh-place finishes.

Quinn, Sonya Schmidt (Desert), Jelani Carter (Palmdale) and Daunye Harris (AV) ran the 4x400 in 3:57.61.

Quinn, Schmidt, Harris and Nicki Johnson (Palmdale) ran the 4x100 in 49.12.

Nick Miconi (Quartz Hill) placed seventh in the hammer (152-3).

``It's a big deal to have two kids come through,'' AVC coach Mark Covert said. ``Both kids stepped up. It's a great thing for the kids, and it's great for our program.''

Saylor has already signed with CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge .

Quinn has received offers from several Div. I programs including Fullerton, CSUN, and Southern Connecticut, but remains unsigned.

His comeback was the culmination of a grueling rehab program that began last summer.

``His comeback was just remarkable,'' Covert said. ``I never really doubted that he could come back because he was so enthusiastic about all the work he was doing. By the first week (of the season) it was quite evident that he was ready.''

Kostopoulos rushed for 2,101yards, scored 30 touchdowns, and made 115 tackles, leading the Bobcats to the Southern Section Div. XII semifinals.

Kostopoulos played most of the season with a shoulder injury that required surgery in December.

He rejoined the baseball team two weeks ago and is restricted to designated hitting duties.

His father Paul, who is Boron's principal, said Kostopoulos was leaning heavily toward playing football for Chaffey College History

The school was first founded in Ontario in 1883, when city founders and brothers George and William Chaffey donated land and established an endowment for a private college.
