ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: AVC KEEPS PILING UP STATS, WINS MARAUDERS READY TO FACE NO. 11 TEAM ON SATURDAY.

The Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  football team is averaging 36 points per game, second-best in the Foothill Conference, after routing Southwestern 40-17 in Chula Vista Chula Vista (ch`lə), city (1990 pop. 135,163), San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1911.  on Saturday.

The individual highlights in the victory over Southwestern:

--Cory Allred was 18 of 25 for 266 yards and three touchdowns. The Rosamond High graduate has yet to throw an interception this season.

--Jason Anderson returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and was just getting started. The 6-foot, 200-pound running back finished the day with 270 all-purpose yards - rushing (87), receptions (17) and punt (131) and kickoff (41) returns.

--Brandon Eggerth (84 yards), James Laurence (59 yards) and DeVon Stewart (101 yards) each had five receptions and caught a touchdown pass.

AVC will play host to San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  Mesa, ranked No. 11 in Southern California, on Saturday.

The AVC running game leads the conference with 200 yards a game and the defense is ranked No. 2, allowing 268 yards a game.

Kristel Jones, who averaged a team-high 16 points a game and was selected to the All-Foothill Conference team as a freshman, is academically ineligible. Jameka Taylor, also an all-conference selection, has moved to San Diego to be with her family.

``In Kristel's case, we would love to have her back,'' Taylor said. ``But she needs to get her academics back together. Once she does, there will be a lot of Division I programs knocking at her door. And Jameka, well, I respect her choice.

``We had a pretty good recruiting year and we're not going to rely on any one player this season. That will make us a better team overall.''

Tamie Scott (6-foot-2), Sarah Meng (6-0) and Beth Davies (6-0) return from last season's team, which was 19-15. They'll be joined by a freshmen class that includes Julie Collier (Palmdale High), Rashawna Mayes (Littlerock) and Christyna Campbell (Frazier Mountain Frazier Mountain is a mountain (or peak) that is located near Frazier Park, California and Lake of the Woods, California to the north. ``In a lot of ways, it's great to not have a scorer. The team lets up at times,'' Taylor said. ``Now we have to rely on each other. As a result, we'll play better team basketball. We can go for a speed unit or a power lineup and all of that will help us in the long run.''
