ANTELOPE VALLEY: PUBLIC FORUM : HEADLINE WRONGLY MALIGNS AVENUE I.

Your headline article of Monday, Oct. 6, discussing transient crime along Avenue I was inaccurate and scarcely headline worthy.

The hyperbole-laced headline gave the impression that the whole area is plagued with vagrants and transients when in fact, the article focused narrowly on one or two businesses on one corner of the intersection in question.

The reality is that Avenue I is going uphill, not down. During the past year, the city of Lancaster The City of Lancaster (2002 population: 133,914) is a local government district with city status in Lancashire, England. Its main town is Lancaster, from which it obtained its city status. Other towns in the district include Morecambe, Heysham, Slyne, and Carnforth.  has widened and beautified Avenue I with planters and trees from 30th Street West to 15th Street West.

The JetHawks stadium was built on Avenue I. My own store, The Grocery Outlet Grocery Outlet, first known as Canned Foods Grocery Outlet until 1992, is a privately owned supermarket chain. Founded in 1946 in San Francisco, California, it currently operates within the Western states of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and Arizona. , on the corner of 10th Street West and Avenue I opened for business nearly three years ago and now brings in thousands of customers from all over the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

Does all this sound like an area ``plagued with vagrants'' and with ``chronic transient crime?''

Every business area in the valley including the mall, downtown Lancaster and Palmdale, Avenue I and Valley Center Way has its share of transients, hooligans young and old, and homeless.

Just because one shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  has dealt poorly with a situation is no reason to characterize the entire shopping district as having problems. So how about sending your reporters out to find some real news?

L.A. County needs insurance reform

When I moved from San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  to Lancaster, my insurance rate was increased by $400 per year for the same coverage, good driver record, car garaged, secure parking.

I have requested three estimates from large reputable insurance companies; they are all within a few dollars on their quotes, with the exception of one - they were $100 higher.

The agents' reason for the higher rates from all three companies is that we are in effect subsidizing the inner city drivers of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County. If the rates were not spread out, the high risk areas would not be able to afford auto insurance. Too bad. I cannot afford insurance under the present system.

My question is why not rate by driving record and ZIP codes?

Put the risk where it is instead of dumping everyone into the Los Angeles County pool, which is nothing but the dark hole in space that everyone is looking for Looking for

.

All three of the agents suggested I return to San Diego County or move to Kern County, which is about a 15-minute drive from Lancaster. I do not want to move; a fair insurance reform would be a better idea.

The insurance companies do not have to worry by California law. They are guaranteed customers regardless of price. Apparently they do not even have to compete. They are within a few dollars of each other.
