ANTELOPE VALLEY: NOTES : HEAT TAKES PRIDE IN LAST-SECOND WIN.

The Palmdale Heat, a girls' under-12 youth soccer team, defeated the Santa Clarita United Pride 2-1 on Saturday.

Left winger Christina Pearson crossed a pass in front of the Santa Clarita goal and Brittany Thomas put the ball in the net with one second remaining in the game.

Santa Clarita scored first, but the Heat's Robyn Blondeel-Timmerman took the ball 65 yards upfield to score and tie the game with one minute left in the first half.

The Heat closed to within a half-game of the Santa Clarita Pride in the Silver Division of the El Camino Real league.

Golf: The Paraclete High School Booster Club is holding the sixth annual Paraclete Golf Classic on Oct. 18 at Elizabeth Lake Golf & Ranch Club.

The tournament is a four-man scramble with a shotgun start.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.

The cost is $75 a person. Sign-ups will be limited to 144 participants.

Individuals or businesses can sponsor tees and greens at $75 each.

Proceeds will benefit the school's athletic programs.

Basketball: Antelope Valley College women's basketball coach Jackie Lott is directing the eighth annual Hot Shot youth basketball camp for boys and girls ages 6-14.

The camp will run in three sessions. The first session is Oct. 25 at Quartz Hill High School. The second and third sessions are Nov. 1 and Nov. 8 at Antelope Valley College.

The session for boys and girls ages 6-10 will run from noon to 2 p.m. The session for ages 11-14 runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost is $45 per two-hour session.

Each participant receives a free T-shirt. Awards will go to winners of various competitions.

Deadline for registration is Oct. 10. Spaces are limited.

Softball: Spots are open for players 16 and older in the adult softball leagues. Registration is at the Castaic Sports Complex.

The team fee is $300, plus $10 per game for umpires.

Leagues include men's play on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Women's teams play Tuesdays, and coed teams play Sundays and Thursdays.
