ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : VACANT-HOUSE FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION.


PALMDALE - Arson arson, at common law, the malicious and willful burning of the house of another. Originally, it was an offense against the security of habitation rather than against property rights.  investigators were called in to examine a suspicious fire Monday that heavily damaged a vacant house.

Firefighters estimated damage at $50,000 to the three-bedroom home in the 38800 block of Stanridge Avenue. The home's kitchen, dining room and living room were burned, and the rest of the home suffered smoke damage, officials said.

The fire was reported shortly before 1 p.m.

The body of the unidentified man was discovered about 10 a.m. near 108th Street East and Avenue I-2.

The cause of death was not immediately known, but homicide detectives were sent to investigate. Firefighters said the man appeared to have been shot.

Registration is taken Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Palmdale Cultural Center, 704 E. Palmdale Blvd.
