ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : THRIFT STORE EMPLOYEE FINDS TEAR GAS DEVICES.


LANCASTER - A tear gas tear gas, gas that causes temporary blindness through the excessive flow of tears resulting from irritation of the eyes. The gas is used in chemical warfare and as a means for dispersing mobs.  grenade grenade (grĭnād`), small bomb filled with explosives, gas, or chemicals and either thrown by hand or shot from a modified rifle or a grenade launcher. Grenades were in use as early as the 15th cent.  and two tear gas cartridges were recovered by sheriff's deputies Wednesday after a Lancaster thrift store worker found them in a box of donated clothes, sheriff's officials said.

An employee found the items, which were inside a plastic bag in the box, while sorting clothes at the Senior Citizens Thrift Store at 316 E. Ave. I, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County sheriff's deputies said.

Center employees did not know who donated the box of clothes. The tear gas devices were booked into evidence at the Lancaster sheriff's station.

LANCASTER - Sheriff's deputies were searching Wednesday for two suspects in a Lancaster bank robbery.

The men entered the Home Savings of America office at 1140 W. Ave. K shortly after noon Wednesday and demanded that a teller TELLER. An officer in a bank or other institution. He is said to take that name from tallier, or one who kept a tally, because it is his duty to keep the accounts between the bank or other institution and its customers, or to make their accounts tally.  fill a woman's purse with money, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said.

The men acted as if they had a hidden weapon, deputies said, but none was seen.
