5 killed in crash on Highway 14

INYOKERN - Five people were killed when the van in which they were riding went out of control Monday on Highway 14 and crashed into the center divider, authorities said.

Identities of the victims were unknown. They all appeared to be in their 50s and 60s, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Gary Goldy said.

The van was traveling north on Highway 14 at an unknown speed shortly after noon when it went out of control and hit the center divider, Goldy said. The vehicle went airborne and landed on its front end before coming to rest on its tires.

Extrication of the victims continued into the afternoon. The cause of the crash was under investigation. Inyokern, in northern Kern County, is about 65 miles north of Lancaster.
