Lancaster woman arrested in scalding

LANCASTER - A Lancaster man suffered serious burns when his girlfriend poured a pot of boiling water on him as he lay on a couch in his home early Thursday, sheriff's deputies said.

Velveta Dixon, 38, was arrested on suspicion of assault with force likely to produce bodily injury and was being held at the Antelope Valley Sheriff's Station in lieu of $50,000 bail, deputies said.

According to deputies, Dixon had been arguing with Charles Hughes, 46, in their home in the 45100 block of 17th Street West. Hughes then walked out of the kitchen and into the front room, where he lay down on the couch.

Dixon followed, carrying a boiling pot of water, which she poured on the right side of Hughes' upper body, deputies said. Hughes was treated for severe scald burns at Antelope Valley Hospital and released.
