Palmdale to hold lifeguard training

PALMDALE - Tryouts will be held May 31 for the city's junior lifeguard program.

Designed for youths ages 13 to 16, the program is intended to expand their knowledge of aquatic safety and train them in life-guarding skills.

Students must be able to swim 250 yards, tread water for two minutes and retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool.

The program fee is $30 for ages 13 and 14 and $40 for ages 15 to 16. For information, call the parks department at (805) 267-5611.
