Crisantos Villa, 27, of Lancaster suffered a half-inch stab wound to the lower back.

According to a deputy's report, Villa was walking on Avenue J-8, just west of 17th Street East, about 8:10 p.m. Monday when he stopped for a moment and watched a man and a woman quarrel. As he resumed walking, he told deputies, he heard the man swear at him and yell, ``I'm going to kill you.''

Villa said he felt a pain in his back and realized he'd been stabbed. He said he pulled the knife away from his assailant and punched him in the face. Villa quoted the assailant as then saying, ``Go on, kill me, you chicken,'' according to the report.

Villa said he briefly followed the assailant and then sought help from a resident standing outside a house. The resident took over the pursuit for a while, but deputies who searched the area could not find the suspect, the report said.
