LANCASTER - A 13-year-old boy was struck by a hit-and-run motorist as he crossed a street Wednesday while walking home from school, sheriff's officials said.

Man sought in rape at Lancaster motel

LANCASTER - Sheriff's deputies are searching for a gunman who raped a maid in a Lancaster motel room, officials said.

Sheriff's deputies were sent to the E-Z E-Z Engdahl-Zigangirov (bound)  8 Motel at 43530 17th St. W. shortly after 2:26 p.m. Wednesday after a janitor reported seeing a man pull a maid into a room.

The suspect was gone when deputies arrived.

``He had left the location but she stayed in the room because she was scared,'' Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. John Crabb said. ``It happened on a floor where all the residents were out.''

Before leaving, the man made a telephone call and took money from his victim, deputies said.

Friend enters plea in salad shooting

LANCASTER - An Acton man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he shot to death a house guest after a fight over whether to put vinegar on their salad.

Thomas Panda, 41, is charged with one count of murder in the Jan. 14 death of William Gibbs William Gibbs may refer to:

. Panda was being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear Feb. 25 in Antelope Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing.

Panda told deputies that Gibbs had beaten him up earlier in the day after complaining because Panda put vinegar on their dinner salad. Four hours later, the men and Gibbs' girlfriend were sitting in the living room when Panda suddenly stood and shot Gibbs, officials said.
