ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : PALMDALE TEACHERS WIN RAISE IN PACT.

PALMDALE - Teachers will receive a retroactive retroactive adj. referring to a court's decision or a statute enacted by a legislative body, which would result in an application to past transactions and legal actions. In criminal law, statutes which would increase penalties or make criminal activities which had been previously legal are prohibited by the Constitutional ban on ex post facto laws (Article I, Section 9). 2 percent raise for the 1995-96 school year and a 4.5 percent raise this year, according to the terms of a contract approved by the Palmdale school board.

The 1995-96 pay hike will be made retroactive to Jan. 1, 1996, and the second raise will be made retroactive to July 1, 1996, officials said.

The board approved the agreement at Tuesday's meeting. The union membership had previously approved the pact.

Deputies to display recovered items

LANCASTER - Hoping to identify a large amount of stolen property that was recovered last week with the arrests of four burglary suspects, sheriff's officials will display the items Sunday at the station.

The display will be open only to people who have reported their property stolen to the Sheriff's Department prior to Sept. 27, as an ongoing effort by sheriff's detectives to identify the owners of the recovered property.

``Hopefully, we'll get people's stuff back to them,'' said Sgt. Darrel Brown.

Those wishing to view the property can go to the Lancaster Sheriff's Station at 501 W. Lancaster Blvd. from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, call (805) 948-8466.
