Family loses home in fire at Palmdale

PALMDALE - A fire caused by a cigarette destroyed a Palmdale home Wednesday afternoon and left a family homeless, fire officials said.

When fire officials reached the 6600 block of Avenida De Camino shortly before 5 p.m., they found a single-story home in flames.

``The family is not going to be able to live there,'' Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Gary Bronner said.

Officials estimate the damages at $50,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents. Bronner said a cigarette apparently had not been put out and caught a bed on fire while the occupants were away.
