Obaidullah James Shams, 30, was on his way home from the Modesto area when he telephoned his family to say he was stopping to visit the friend, said Deputy Carrie Stuart of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. ``Shams did, in fact, visit his friend in Lancaster, but never arrived home in San Diego,'' Stuart said. On Oct. 14, Shams' Porsche convertible was impounded by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, after being found abandoned behind a Holiday Inn in Victorville. The key was still in the ignition, and the car had apparently had been parked there several days, investigators said. Shams is white, 5 feet 7 and about 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. When last seen, he was in black pants, a black shirt and black ``biker-type'' pull-on boots.
