ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : LANCASTER TO HOLD KING ESSAY CONTEST.

 - Entries are being sought for the city's eighth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day essay contest.

Children in grades 3-5 should write a 100- to 150-word essay beginning with ``If I could talk to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I would say . . .''

Students in grades 6-8 will address the topic ``The Dream: What Can I Do to Make it Come True,'' in essays 200 to 250 words long.

Students in grades 9-12 will address the topic ``How can you apply Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s message to help achieve racial harmony?'' Essays should be between 300 and 400 words.

Students attending any of Lancaster's school districts are eligible. Winners in each category will have their essays read as part of the city's Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration Jan. 19 at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. .

Library schedules preschool program

PALMDALE Palmdale, city (1990 pop. 68,842), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the irrigated Antelope Valley; a growing residential suburb of Los Angeles near Little Rock Creek where it forms Lake Palmdale Reservoir, inc. 1962.  - Story-time programs for preschoolers are held 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Palmdale City Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.

The programs include stories, finger plays, songs and crafts. The program is free and does not require registration.

2 suspects arrested in Christmas attack

PALMDALE - Two men have been arrested in the Christmas Day attack on a Palmdale man who was shot three times following an argument over $60 the victim owed to his assailant and another man, sheriff's deputies said Friday.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was reported to be in serious but stable condition at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  in Mission Hills following the 1 a.m. shooting near 10th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard, deputies said.

After the shooting, the gunman and three other men left in a car, officials said.
