ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : KNIGHT PULLS PROPOSAL TO BAN GAY MARRIAGES.


Assemblyman W.J. ``Pete'' Knight said Wednesday that he has withdrawn his bill to ban same-sex marriages because of the introduction of federal legislation that would accomplish the same thing.

The bill, AB 3227, would amend the definition of marriage as ``between one man and one woman,'' according to according to

Six Mojave Dumpster fires prompt probe

MOJAVE - Fire officials are investigating a rash of Dumpster fires that started within minutes of each other Sunday and Monday nights but caused little damage.

``Somebody or people are starting Dumpster fires next to businesses,'' said Kern County fire Capt. John Peterson. ``None of the fires have spread out of the Dumpster.''

The first fire began Sunday at 9:17 p.m., followed by one at 9:31 p.m. On Monday, there were fires at 8 p.m., 8:10 p.m., 8:35 p.m. and 8:36 p.m.

``The fires have stopped once we started showing our presence,'' said Peterson, who said that firefighters visited high schools and that sheriff's deputies increased patrols in alleys.

Center helping family after boy's suicide

LANCASTER - Baby Steps, an infant and child therapy center, is accepting donations for the family of Jeremy Tisinger, an 11-year-old boy who shot himself in the head Monday.

Donations should be made in care of Baby Steps and marked for the Tisinger family, officials said. The center is at 1051 W. Ave. M, Suite 205, Lancaster, Calif. 93534.

According to officials, the boy was found dead in the master bedroom Monday afternoon after he retrieved his father's revolver from a hidden location and shot himself.

Palmdale Playhouse to hold arts meeting

PALMDALE - Palmdale Playhouse staffers will host the monthly meeting of its arts association program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the theater, 38334 10th St. E.

The mission of the art association is to promote art and artists in the community. The association also will manage the Palmdale Playhouse art gallery, host juried exhibitions and develop demonstration programs targeted to students and senior citizens.
