ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : KNIFE-WIELDING MAN ARRESTED AT CENTER.


LANCASTER - A Lancaster man who pushed a shopping cart loaded with $400 worth of meat and lobster tails out of a supermarket without paying was arrested after he pulled a knife on the store manager, deputies said.

Deputies said a man entered a Lucky's market at 43534 20th St. W., at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and filled a shopping cart with meat and lobster tails and left without paying.

When the store manager confronted him, the man threatened with a 9-inch knife, then abandoned the cart and ran into the nearby Tower Shopping Center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into , deputies said.

The store manager flagged down a passing sheriff's deputy and led him to the center where the robber had fled. There deputies arrested Payton Grimmit, 43, and recovered the knife.

Booked on suspicion of robbery, Grimmit is being held at the Lancaster sheriff's station in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Palmdale man gets arrested in drive-by

2 teens unscathed after being shot at

LANCASTER - Two teen-agers were shot at but escaped uninjured while walking Thursday afternoon on East Avenue I, sheriff's deputies said.
