Deputies release robbery suspects

QUARTZ HILL - Sheriff's deputies said Friday they have released Calvin Edward Myvett, 20, of Palmdale and Allan Wilhem Goff, 54, of Los Angeles, who were arrested after a bank robbery.

Authorities said they are continuing to investigate Wednesday's robbery of the Quartz Hill Home Savings of America office.

Program features L.A. Sheriff's Dept.

PALMDALE - Residents interested in attending a free 14-week program to learn about the inner workings of the Sheriff's Department can pick up applications beginning Monday, sheriff's officials said.

The Community Academy will take place Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. beginning April 22 at the Palmdale Cultural Center, 704 E. Palmdale Blvd.

Focusing on operational procedures, criminal law and investigations and including tours of a county jail, the Lancaster Sheriff's Station and the sheriff's weapons training center, the academy was developed to build a better understanding between residents and the Sheriff's Department.

Only 40 spots are available. Applications will be available at the Lancaster Sheriff's Station at 501 W. Lancaster Blvd.; the Palmdale Sheriff's Station at 1020 E. Palmdale Blvd.; and the Antelope Valley Mall The Antelope Valley Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Palmdale, California.

Opened in September, 1990, its buildings take up around 1 million square feet (90,000 m²). Its physical main building, parking lots, and ring road businesses encompass an area a bit less than 0.
