The truck spun around and the driver's side of the truck hit the pole. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, Siordia said.

 checkpoint nets four arrests

PALMDALE - Four people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, including one man who attempted to evade arrest, during a sobriety checkpoint held Friday night, a California Highway Patrolman said Monday.

The checkpoint was set up on Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling  north of Avenue Q. Officers screened 535 drivers.

One motorist, described only as a 36-year-old Palmdale man, attempted to evade the checkpoint, but was arrested near Avenue R-4 and 10th Street East after a brief chase, Officer Miguel Siordia said.
