 trustees made no decision at Tuesday's meeting on whether to buy the empty Smith's supermarket to convert to a school.

Saying the proposal was discussed in closed session, school officials declined to comment specifically on the matter. The state's open-meeting law allows private discussions between legislative bodies and their real estate negotiators over price and payment terms.

LANCASTER - A gunman stole $200, a toy truck and Halloween candy during a home invasion robbery at a Gadsden Avenue apartment, sheriff's officials said.

The robber got into the apartment about 10 a.m. Wednesday after knocking on the door and giving the name of a person who the residents know, deputies said. When they opened the door, he pointed at them and demanded drugs and money.

After being told there were no drugs or money, the robber took money from a purse, a radio-controlled toy truck and some Halloween candy.

Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Brad Foss at the Lancaster Sheriff's Station at (805) 948-8466 or the crime tip hotline at (805) 948-COPS.

Mojave Unified fills vacancy on board
