The boy, whose name was not released due to his age, told deputies that he was carrying the gun for his own protection.

The gun was found after several students informed the campus deputy that the boy was armed, deputies said.

The boy was booked at the Antelope Valley Sheriff's Station on suspicion of carrying a firearm on a school campus, a felony, and transported to Sylmar Juvenile Hall.
