ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : CROSS-BURNING FIRE BRINGS PRISON TERM.


LANCASTER - A 21-year-old Palmdale man was sentenced Wednesday to 16 months in prison for a cross-burning that ignited a 1-1/2-acre brush fire at a Littlerock Recreation Area campground.

Richard Ritchie Texas A&I had a 1-8 record going into the last game of the 1973 season. A freshman, Richard Ritchie, moved up to the starting quarterback position. The Javelinas won that game. Ritchie continued as quarterback for three full seasons.  pleaded no contest to arson of property after prosecutors agreed to dismiss a charge of arson of forest, which carries a longer penalty.

Volunteers to make trip to school safer

LANCASTER - A program to make the streets safer for children walking to and from school is scheduled to start in January after its approval by Lancaster School District Lancaster School District may refer to:

Under Project Safewalk approved by the board Tuesday, uniformed volunteers will keep watch over children during morning and afternoon hours along designated routes.

The program is a cooperative effort among the Lancaster district, the Eastside Union School District, the city of Lancaster The City of Lancaster (2002 population: 133,914) is a local government district with city status in Lancashire, England. Board OKs raise for superintendent

LANCASTER - Lancaster School District trustees have given Superintendent Stephen Gocke a 3.5 percent raise retroactive Having reference to things that happened in the past, prior to the occurrence of the act in question.

A retroactive or retrospective law is one that takes away or impairs vested rights acquired under existing laws, creates new obligations, imposes new duties, or attaches a
 to July 1 and a one-year extension on his contract, officials said.

The raise, approved with a 5-0 vote at Tuesday's meeting, will hike Gocke's annual salary to $93,150. Gocke's contract will now expire Nov. 30, 1998.

Gocke was hired as the top administrator in November 1995, replacing David Alvarez, who left to take a job at the Chino Chino (chē`nō), city (1990 pop. 59,682), San Bernardino co., S Calif.; founded 1887, inc. 1910. LANCASTER - An air purifier was blamed for a fire that caused $50,000 in damages Wednesday afternoon to a single-story home in the 700 block of East Avenue J-9, fire officials said.

Although the flames were contained to the family room, the entire home received extensive smoke damage. Officials said the fire was started by a air purifier that had been placed too close to papers.

Charges added in assault case

LANCASTER - An 18-year-old Lancaster man facing charges in connection with a shooting will be charged additionally with graffiti vandalism and receiving stolen property, sheriff's officials said.

Ricardo Valdez, who was arrested Nov. 26 on suspicion of assault with a firearm and conspiracy, faces the additional charges after deputies recovered photos of graffiti and several stolen guns during a search of his home in the 45000 block of Elm Avenue, officials said.
