ROSAMOND - A discarded cigarette sparked a fire that destroyed a storage shed, officials said Saturday.

When fire officials responded to the 6300 block of Astoria Avenue just after 7:47 p.m. Friday, they found an outdoor unattached storage shed totally engulfed in flames In Flames is a melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden founded in 1990. Along with Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates, they pioneered what is now known as melodic death metal. .

Damages were estimated at $500 in contents and $500 to structure.

LANCASTER - Apollo County Park will be the site of the 24th Annual Youth Fishing Derby from 7 to 11 a.m. May 4.

Sponsored by the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Department of Parks and Recreation, the derby is for children between the ages of 5 and 15. The competition is at 4555 West Avenue G.

The derby is free with no license required, but youths must bring their own equipment. Registration will begin at 6 a.m.

Students to present `Kids on Stage '96'

LANCASTER - Tickets to the Lancaster School District's third annual multischool musical extravaganza ex·trav·a·gan·za

Featuring more than 1,000 student singers and musicians, and sponsored by the Lancaster Education Foundation, the ``Kids on Stage '96'' show will run May 13-15 at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. .

Tickets are $6. For ticket information, visit the Lancaster Performing Arts Center Box Office, 750 West Lancaster Blvd., Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., or call (805) 723-5950.
