Dog vaccination, license clinics set

LANCASTER - Low-cost vaccination and licensing clinics for dogs are scheduled for next week in Lancaster and Palmdale.

The Lancaster clinic will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 19 at El Dorado Park, 44501 Fifth St. E. The Palmdale clinic will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 20 at Courson Park, 38226 10th St. E.

Rabies vaccinations, which are required by state law for all dogs four months and older, will be available for only $4. The 6-in-1 vaccination, which also protects against distemper distemper, in veterinary medicine, highly contagious, catarrhal, often fatal disease of dogs. It also affects wolves, foxes, mink, raccoons, and ferrets. Distemper is caused by a filtrable virus that is airborne; it is also spread by infected utensils, brushes, and , hepatitis, leptospirosis leptospirosis (lĕp'təspīrō`sĭs), febrile disease caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospirae. Meeting will focus on gas, alcohol sales

PALMDALE - Lancaster and Palmdale officials will talk Friday about the possibility of tightening municipal regulations on mini-marts and service stations that sell gasoline and alcoholic beverages.

Lancaster Councilwoman Deborah Shelton, Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford and Palmdale Councilman Jim Root are scheduled to speak to the High Desert Alcohol Policy Coalition, which will meet at 10 a.m. at the Antelope Valley United Way office, 190 Sierra Court, Suite B-1. The meeting is open to the public.

Also present will be Dale Rasmussen, administrator of the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's Van Nuys District, who will talk about Los Angeles County experiences and practices associated with businesses that sell both alcohol and gasoline, said coalition Chairman Ray Chavira.
