ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : BOY ADMITS LYING ABOUT ABDUCTION.

Sheriff's deputies said a 6-year-old boy who reported he was abducted while walking home from Mariposa Elementary School admitted Wednesday he made up the story.

Before the boy's admission, sheriff's deputies stepped up patrols around Mariposa and school officials sent home warning notices to parents, suggesting that an adult accompany their children to and from school.

Teachers spoke to their pupils about what to do if they're confronted by strangers. Extra aides were put on duty and staff members were assigned to patrol the perimeter of the campus for the rest of the week.

The boy told deputies Tuesday that a man forced him into a car, drove him a short distance to nearby Mariposa Park, poked him with a knife, and then shoved him out of the car. But Wednesday afternoon, when interviewed by the deputy assigned to patrol Lancaster School District campuses, the boy admitted making up the story, deputies said.
