ANTELOPE VALLEY: BRIEFLY : AIR FORCE CAMERA TAKEN BY THIEVES.


LANCASTER - A $25,000 Air Force flight test camera has been stolen from a local company, where it was being repaired, authorities said Tuesday.

The sophisticated, limited-use camera and a $4,000 lens were taken from Visual Instrumentation Corp. sometime between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Thieves also took another camera, a prototype battery charger, and miscellaneous construction materials. The total loss was estimated at $34,000.

Officials said the thieves caused $300 in damage when they cut a hole in the rear wall to get into the industrial building.

Woman hit by van, dies of injuries

PALMDALE - A 43-year-old Palmdale woman was injured fatally Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  when she was hit by a van as she crossed Palmdale Boulevard, sheriff's officials said.

Employees unhurt in robbery attempt

PALMDALE - A masked gunman locked employees of a fast-food restaurant in a closet during an attempted robbery but left without taking anything, authorities said Tuesday.

The man, wearing a ski mask and carrying a handgun, entered the In-N-Out restaurant on Palmdale Boulevard near Division Street shortly after 6 a.m. Monday.

Dinner to benefit Brit pilot's children

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway.  - A spaghetti dinner to benefit the two children of Flight Lt. Leigh Fox, a British Royal Air Force pilot who died Oct. 22 in a midair collision between two Air Force jets, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today in Building 1810.

The dinner includes spaghetti, salad, roll and drink. A donation of $5 is requested, and the food may be eaten there or taken out.

Volunteers to talk emergency plans

PALMDALE - Fire and emergency procedures will be reviewed at Palmdale Playhouse's monthly breakfast meeting for volunteers.

The meeting is scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the playhouse, 38334 10th St. E.

The session will include information on the best and quickest way to evacuate a building, staying calm under pressure and tips on handling the public.

The volunteer program is open for anyone ages 18 and older. Duties include helping at the Fall Festival, the Farmers Market and summer theater camp and during community performances.
