Drinking alleged in fatal crash

QUARTZ HILL - A 46-year-old Quartz Hill woman was killed Thursday in an alcohol-related auto crash, sheriff's officials said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was one of three people in a 1994 Toyota Celica traveling eastbound on Avenue K at 10:35 p.m. near 80th Street West.

The vehicle drifted onto the road's dirt shoulder, then veered across both lanes and rolled over in the desert, coming to rest on its wheels, officials said.

The woman was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The other two occupants were taken to Antelope Valley Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

Deputies said they do not know which person was driving. They said they believed alcohol played a part in the crash.
