``After holding the manager at gunpoint, they commandeered the golf cart and took it back to the office,'' said sheriff's Sgt. Greg McHenry.

At the office, the robbers found the manager's wife calling the Sheriff's Department. One of them then tried to pull the phone cord out of the wall.

``The phone had an extremely long cord,'' McHenry said. ``He kept pulling on it while holding a gun. At some point he got it over his head and knocked his hand, which caused the gun to go off.''

The two then locked the husband and wife into the complex's living quarters, took an undisclosed amount of money and fled.
