ANTARA.net's FlameThrower Integrates Seamlessly With Mercury Interactive's LoadRunner; ANTARA Elevated to Validated Integration Partner Status.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2002

ANTARA.net, the inventor and leading provider of powerful, self-contained network infrastructure stressing emulation solutions for service providers and business enterprises, today announced the integration of its FlameThrower flamethrower, mechanism for shooting a burning stream of liquid or semiliquid fuel at enemy troops or positions. Primitive types of flamethrowers, consisting of hollow tubes filled with burning coals, sulfur, or other materials, came into use as early as the 5th cent. (TM) WebStressing solutions with Mercury Interactive's industry-standard load testing Load testing is the process of creating demand on a system or device and measuring its response.

In mechanical systems it refers to the testing of a system to certify it under the appropriate regulations (LOLER in the UK - Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment
tool, LoadRunner(R). Together, FlameThrower and LoadRunner provide users with complete network infrastructure and application testing application testing - system testing .

With the completion of this integration, Antara.net is now a Validated Integration Partner (VIP) in Mercury Interactive's Open Architecture Program (OAP OAP - Outside Awareness Port ). VIP level status means that Antara.net has developed a fully functioning and documented integration between its FlameThrower product and LoadRunner's reporting module.

With this integrated offering, network professionals can now thoroughly analyze their website and its performance and easily differentiate network infrastructure issues from application issues. The integrated solution enables customers to test network performance and capacity from the edge to the core of the application and validate network devices.

"IT managers who do not have the ability to thoroughly analyze their website including measuring application performance and end user experience, do not have complete insight into their network," said Chuck Kolstad, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of ANTARA.net.

"The integration of FlameThrower with LoadRunner provides a comprehensive solution to test network infrastructure and application performance and capacity," said Simon Berman, director product marketing at Mercury Interactive For another company with a similar name, see Mercury Computer Systems.

HP Mercury (formerly Mercury Interactive) is a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard that is a market leader in automated software quality assurance and offers products in other areas such as diagnostics,
. "Now, users no longer have to deploy separate test configurations and independently analyze the data derived in order to achieve this level of insight."

With this integration, customers will benefit from:
-- A complete understanding of how much transaction latency is caused by the
application versus the infrastructure

-- The ability to pinpoint infrastructure flaws or inefficiencies versus
application flaws, resulting in the isolation of the root cause of problems and
improving network efficiencies

-- Improved tuning of content delivery devices

-- Accurate insight into the resiliency of the infrastructure and the
application against cyber attacks

-- New business opportunities through combined network operations and
application development

"Today, more than ever, companies need to take a holistic approach holistic approach A term used in alternative health for a philosophical approach to health care, in which the entire Pt is evaluated and treated. "An integrated solution such as the FlameThrower/LoadRunner offering, tests the entire network, from the infrastructure to the application, and provides IT managers with the critical information they need."

Network infrastructures are becoming more complex with the introduction of higher performance content delivery devices and new security solutions. FlameThrower allows users to test various components of their infrastructure so they understand how a number of devices can work in harmony or, more importantly, not work as envisioned. With this information, IT managers can optimize their network to enhance overall performance.

Released in May of 1999, the FlameThrower product family is the only Internet emulation appliance capable of emulating over 2,000,000 active users and data throughput at gigabit speeds. FlameThrower/II provides valuable insight into the performance of websites and network infrastructures under a variety of traffic conditions, including SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  transactions and DDOS See denial of service attack.  attacks. By creating real-world user and multi-protocol emulation, FlameThrower tests both normal and extreme conditions to pinpoint potentially fatal problems within a network infrastructure.

About Mercury Interactive's LoadRunner

Mercury Interactive's LoadRunner can help to predict system behavior and performance under a real-life user load. LoadRunner exercises the application by emulating the traffic of real users and helps isolate performance bottlenecks and fine-tune performance within the application infrastructure.

About Mercury Interactive's Open Architecture

The Open Architecture Program (OAP) is a dynamic ecosystem of the leading application development, testing and performance management tool vendors. Through the OAP, Mercury Interactive is partnering with leading vendors whose products and services can help our customers build and maintain better applications.
