ANP to sweep Gilgit-Baltistan elections: Iftikhar.

DIAMIR, November 10, 2009 (Frontier Star ): Awami National Party leader and Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have welcomed ANP and expressed the hope that they would elect its members with huge majority. Addressing an election gathering of ANP candidate Aashiq Ullah for GB-15 here on Tuesday, he announced that ANP would field candidate from each constituency in the next general elections. MPA Yasmin Zia, Shagufta Malik, Sakeena Rehman, ANP Secretary General Taj-ud-Din, Secretary Information Arbab Tahir and ANP Dia Mir president Sana Ullah were also present on this occasion. Mian Iftikhar said ANP from the first day has struggled for getting provincial autonomy and control over its own resources and similarly, we will support the people of Gilgit Baltistan to get control over their resources. According to him, ANP will make efforts for giving representation to the Gilgit-Baltistan in the senate and the National Assembly and also giving it the status of autonomous province, so that the sense of deprivation among the people could be ended. He appealed to the people to elect the candidates of ANP, because its agenda guarantees development and prosperity of the region and assured them his party would not disappoint them. The minister said Chief Minister Amir Haidar Khan Hoti had to visit the area but due to some unavoidable reasons, he could not come and he sent us as his team, adding, his party would try to give package to the region on provincial basis. He stressed on the need to use the vote correctly as a national duty and trusty and urged the people not to deprive women of this right but allow them to use their right. Mian Iftikhar said women make majority of the Pakistani population and, therefore, they would have to be brought in national corridor for the development and prosperity of the country and with this we can reach to our destination. MPA Maulana Abeed Ullah, Aashiq Ullah and Dr Mamoon Ullah also spoke on the occasion.
