ANOTHER SHERWOOD LOVE AFFAIR? DEFENDING CHAMPION EYES SIMILAR SUCCESS.

Byline: Dave Shelburne Staff Writer

THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - Davis Love III Davis Milton Love III (born April 13, 1964) is an American professional golfer.

Love was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina before turning professional in 1985.
returns to Sherwood Country Club today, hoping to continue the carryover success spawned by his victory in last year's Williams World Challenge.

``We always look forward to going to Sherwood,'' said Love, who might have more reason than most.

He shot a tournament-record-tying 64 twice last year at Sherwood, the second time in a Sunday charge that enabled him to overtake final-round leaders Tiger Woods Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled.  and Sergio Garcia and win the annual invitational fund-raiser for the Tiger Woods Foundation The Tiger Woods Foundation was established in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father, Earl Woods, to create and support community-based programs that improve the health, education, and welfare of all children in America. .

Love finished the 72-hole event at 22-under-par 266, good for another record, a two-stroke margin over runner-up Woods and a first-place check of $1 million.

But his reward for that victory - his first in more than two years - extended well beyond records and a seven-figure payoff.

He went on to win the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am two months later, highlighting a 2001 season-opening run that produced five top-10s in his first six starts.

Love concluded the 2001 tour season with 12 top-10s in 20 starts, including three seconds where he shot at least 19 under for 72 holes.

He tees off today - at 11:40 a.m., paired with Woods - already assured of his richest season in 16 years on tour. Love has earned $3,169,463 this year, thanks to a No. 2 tour season scoring average of 69.06. It all followed one solid week at Sherwood last winter.

``I went in there and played real well and got my confidence back,'' said Love, who took that confidence into 2001 instead of wondering about the state of his golf game.

``It carried over.'' he said. ``I came from real far behind at Pebble Beach (closing with a 63) and had a lot of good tournaments this year. ... (Winning the Williams) definitely gave me confidence and got be back on the right foot.''
