ANOTHER MISTRIAL DECLARED IN TEACHER SHOOTING CASE.

A judge declared a mistrial A courtroom trial that has been terminated prior to its normal conclusion. A mistrial has no legal effect and is considered an invalid or nugatory trial. It differs from a "new trial," which recognizes that a trial was completed but was set aside so that the issues could be  Monday for the second time in the case of two gang member suspects accused of shooting a fifth-grade teacher who was struck by a stray bullet while standing in front of his class.

Compton Superior Court Judge John Leahy John Leahy (born August 1950) was appointed Chief Operating Officer at Airbus in July 2005. Perez, 30, was struck in the head Feb. 22 when a bullet from a gang fight went through a second-story window at Figueroa Elementary School. He spent four months in Long Beach Memorial Hospital before being released in June. Last month he had a metal plate implanted over a hole in his skull.
