ANOTHER MAJOR GAS DISCOVERY.BP Trinidad & Tobago said it has made another major gas discovery, about 42 miles off the country's east coast, reports CANA (May 10, 2001). BPTT said the discovery of one trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas was made in the Cashima 1 well, the first of four exploratory wells planned by BP for 2001: The total gas and condensate discovered is in excess of 180 million barrels of oil on an energy equivalent basis, said BPTT's Chairman Robert Riley, who added that the latest find positions Trinidad & Tobago for an important role as an exporter of natural gas products, as an industrial center for gas-based industries and also ensures energy needs are satisfied into the future; BP estimates that one tcf of gas is enough to provide all of Trinidad & Tobago's electricity need for 50 years at current usage. Last September, BPTT made another major discovery when one of its wells on the south east coast showed around 3 tcf of gas and 90 million barrels of associated oil condensate. |
